The call to form the PACN Rice Working Group is issued

Buenos Aires, June 9, 2026

With the participation of more than 45 attendees representing the primary production and industrial segments of the rice sector, the PACN held a virtual meeting today to call for the formation of the Rice Working Group.

During this meeting, an introduction was provided on the state of global demands -both public and private- key concepts such as carbon credits and carbon footprint were reinforced, and the distinction between corporate carbon footprint and product carbon footprint was established.

Through this presentation, companies in the rice sector were invited to participate in the Rice Working Group, in which the rice production process in Argentina will be modeled for the calculation of the product carbon footprint aligned with ISO 14.067 and the relevant product categories, thus considering the methodological requirements of the standards that determine market access across different schemes and destinations.

The broad call to the sector is based on the convenience for the productive sector to participate in this activity in order to train their teams in product carbon footprint calculation practices, as well as to contribute to defining the production models to be surveyed and incorporated into the stages represented through the life cycle analysis. This involvement of the private sector will provide the Working Group with the necessary knowledge to develop the calculation tool, its user manual, and the environmental best practices manual specifically focused on product-level CO₂ equivalent.

Although the call meeting was held today, the invitation remains open to any company in the country interested in participating in the PACN ecosystem within the Rice Working Group.
